Best Season for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is accessible throughout the year, but the ideal seasons are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). During spring, the rhododendrons are in full bloom, painting the forests with vibrant shades of red, pink, and white, making the trek visually stunning. The weather is pleasant, with daytime temperatures ranging between 15–25°C (59–77°F) at lower elevations and cooler evenings at higher altitudes. The sky is usually clear, providing perfect conditions for photographing the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.

Autumn is another popular time, as it follows the monsoon season when the air is fresh, and the mountains are snow-capped, offering crisp, panoramic views. The days are slightly cooler than spring, but visibility is excellent, making it ideal for trekking and sightseeing. The winter season (December–February) is less crowded but colder, with possible snowfall above 2,500 meters, which can make the trail slippery but enchanting for experienced trekkers. Summer (June–August) is the monsoon season, and heavy rainfall may cause landslides, slippery trails, and limited visibility.

Key points for seasons:

  • Spring (Mar–May): Rhododendron blooms, pleasant weather, great visibility
  • Autumn (Sep–Nov): Post-monsoon clarity, snow-capped peaks, ideal trekking conditions
  • Winter (Dec–Feb): Fewer tourists, cold nights, occasional snow
  • Summer (Jun–Aug): Rainy season, slippery trails, reduced visibility

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Difficulty and Transportation

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is considered a moderate trek, suitable for beginners with a reasonable level of fitness. The trek’s moderate difficulty is due to gradual ascents and descents, along with some steep stairways in villages like Ulleri. Daily trekking duration ranges from 4 to 6 hours, allowing time for acclimatization, photography, and cultural interaction. The highest point, Poon Hill at 3,210 meters, is well within safe limits for acclimatization, reducing the risk of altitude sickness.

From Pokhara, a scenic drive to Nayapul marks the trekking starting point. All vehicles are comfortable, with stops for refreshments and sightseeing along the route. During the trek, walking remains the primary mode of transport, with trails well-marked and teahouse villages providing rest points. Local porters and guides can be arranged to assist with luggage and navigation, ensuring a smooth trekking experience.

Key points on difficulty and transportation:

  • Moderate trek, suitable for beginners and experienced trekkers
  • Daily trekking: 4–6 hours

The ACAP permit contributes to the protection and maintenance of the natural and cultural heritage of the Annapurna region, including forests, wildlife, and villages. The TIMS card helps monitor trekking activities for safety and emergency purposes.

SHORT TREK FOR 4 DAYS

Thank you Rabin for organizing poonhill trek. Krishna Malla was a fantastic guide throughout the whole trek and had a vast knowledge of the surrounding mountains. We were in the low season so it was more cloudy but we were often alone in the lodge and during our walk which was more fun. Overall it was a great trek. I can't recommend GNT any higher.

The BEST trip ever!!!

Trekking and visiting Nepal has been my #1 dream since I can even remember and expectation were high. Not only were my expectations met but it was even more incredible than I could've imagined. Rabin organized a 5 day trek to Poonhill for us and it was great. We absolutely loved all the guest houses we stayed in, all the places we were taken for food, and more importantly Rabin and Ram (our porter organized by Rabin) were super supportive, patient, and very very fun to hang out with. I didn't expect to laugh so much and have such banter which obviously made the trip even better. I can't speak highly enough of how helpful and friendly they were and what a great experience I had with Glacier Nepal Treks. We didn't have to worry about a single thing other than have the trip of our lives. We will be back!!

Short, Sweet Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek with Glacier Nepal Treks was the most perfectly short and sweet Himalayan adventure I could have asked for. Standing at the Poon Hill viewpoint at 3,210 metres watching the sunrise paint Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machapuchare in breathtaking golden light was a moment of such overwhelming beauty that I genuinely wept with pure joy. Our guide Sagar was outstanding throughout knowledgeable, warm, and genuinely passionate about the trail. Our porter Ramesh was exceptional cheerful, hardworking, and reliable every single day.

Everything was well organized, and Arjun made sure I was comfortable and safe during the trek. Short and Beautiful Himalayan Adventure

I had a fantastic experience on the Poon Hill Trek with Glacier Nepal Treks. Our guide, Rajesh, was friendly, helpful, and professional throughout the journey. Rabin organized the trek very well, and everything from transportation to accommodation was smoothly managed. The trail was beautiful, passing through green forests, traditional villages, stone steps, and scenic mountain landscapes. The highlight was reaching Poon Hill early in the morning and watching the spectacular sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The trek was not too long or difficult, which made it perfect for enjoying the Himalayan scenery without needing a lot of time. In my opinion, Poon Hill is one of the shortest and best treks in Nepal.

recommend GNT to anyone planning a trek in Nepal.

Our Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek with Glacier Nepal Treks was a beautiful and memorable experience. One of our favorite moments was the early-morning hike to Poon Hill. Waking up before sunrise, walking through the quiet mountain trail, and reaching the viewpoint just in time to watch the first light touch the Himalayas was truly special. The magnificent views of Mt. Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna range made the early start completely worth it. We also really enjoyed walking through the peaceful villages, forests, and stone-paved trails along the way. Our guide, Ram, was friendly, caring, and always made sure we were comfortable. A big thank you to Rabin for organizing everything so well. All the arrangements were smooth, and we could simply enjoy the trek without worrying about the details.

In spring, the rhododendron forests are in full bloom, creating a colorful landscape, while autumn offers clear skies with stunning mountain views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. These periods also provide comfortable temperatures, making the trek safer and more enjoyable. Winter and monsoon seasons are less ideal due to cold, snow, or heavy rainfall.
