The Everest Base Camp Trek is widely regarded as one of the most captivating journeys on Earth, leading adventurers deep into the heart of the Himalayas and to the foot of the mighty Mount Everest. Located within Sagarmatha National Park, Everest rises to 8,850 meters above sea level, inspiring trekkers from around the world to experience this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. The trail winds through dramatic landscapes, charming Sherpa villages, and rugged mountain paths, finally reaching the base camp of the world’s tallest mountain.

Along the way, trekkers visit the historic Tengboche Monastery, an important spiritual center of the Khumbu region, where you can learn about Buddhist traditions, culture, and the monastery’s deep religious significance. With its breathtaking natural beauty and rich historical, cultural, and geological importance, the Everest Base Camp Trek is truly one of the finest trekking experiences in the Himalayas.

The journey begins with an exciting 40-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla Airport, the gateway to the Everest region. From there, the trek gradually ascends through scenic valleys and alpine terrain. Although the route is considered moderately challenging, it is suitable for fit and healthy trekkers who are mindful of high-altitude conditions. The itinerary can also be customized based on individual fitness levels, interests, and time availability.

A standard Everest Base Camp Trek typically takes 13–15 days, while extended itineraries may range from 18–22 days for a more relaxed and immersive experience. Throughout the journey, our professional and experienced trekking leaders, along with our friendly support crew, ensure your comfort and safety. We prioritize employing knowledgeable local staff who possess deep environmental, cultural, and historical insight into the Everest region. They are well trained, safety-focused, and fluent in both English and local languages, ensuring a secure, informative, and unforgettable trekking experience.

      Trip Itinerary

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, where a Glacier Nepal Treks representative will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel by private vehicle. After a short rest, you will meet your trekking guide at our office. You can ask any questions you may have about the trek, and the guide will provide detailed answers and information. Overnight stay at the hotel.

It’s about a 35-minute scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, one of the most thrilling mountain airstrips in the world. During the flight, you can enjoy breathtaking aerial views of the Himalayan range. After landing and having breakfast in Lukla, we organize our gear and begin the trek. The trail gradually descends toward Thadokoshi, passing through beautiful pine forests and small Sherpa settlements. Along the way, you’ll enjoy impressive views of Kusum Kanguru rising dramatically above the valley. We then continue walking alongside the rushing waters of the Dudh Koshi River, crossing suspension bridges and passing mani stones and prayer wheels before reaching the peaceful village of Phakding. Overnight stay at Phakding.

After breakfast, we begin our trek, gradually making our way toward Banker while enjoying beautiful views of Thamserku rising majestically above the valley. Today, we officially enter Sagarmatha National Park, the protected region that is home to the Everest Himalayas. Crossing several thrilling suspension bridges along the Dudh Koshi River, we continue our steady climb through pine forests and charming Sherpa villages. As we ascend higher, we are rewarded with our first glimpse of Mount Everest. If luck is on our side, we might even spot a rare red panda along the trail. By late afternoon, we reach Namche Bazaar, the vibrant gateway to Everest, where we stay overnight.

Namche Bazaar is the gateway to Everest and the largest village in the Khumbu region, serving as the main trading and cultural hub for trekkers and locals alike. To help with acclimatization, we hike up to Everest View Hotel, one of the world’s highest-placed hotels, where we are rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and many other surrounding peaks. After descending back to Namche, you can explore the Sagarmatha National Park headquarters, visit the Sherpa Museum to learn about local culture and mountaineering history, or stroll through the lively market. Cozy cafés along the streets often screen documentaries about Everest and Sherpa life. Overnight at Namche Bazaar.

After breakfast, we begin our trek toward Kanjoma and gradually ascend to Mong La, a scenic ridge that rewards us with breathtaking views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kangtega. From here, the trail descends steeply to the Dudh Koshi River, where we cross and begin a steady climb through peaceful rhododendron and pine forests.Continuing uphill, we reach the traditional Sherpa village of Phortse, known for its rich culture and mountain lifestyle. In the evening, you may visit a local monastery and soak in the quiet spiritual atmosphere of the village. Overnight at Phortse

After leaving Phortse, we follow a quiet ridge high above the valley. This section of the trail is remote, and there are no houses or tea shops for the next three hours, so be sure to refill your water and carry any essentials before departing. The peaceful path offers beautiful mountain scenery and a true wilderness experience. Gradually, we descend and reconnect with the main Everest trekking route near Pangboche, where we begin to meet other trekkers. Passing ancient mani walls and colorful prayer flags, we continue along a gentler trail. The walk becomes easier as we follow the wide valley toward Dingboche, the highest permanent settlement in the region, known for its stone-walled potato fields and stunning mountain views. Overnight at Dingboche.

Today is set aside for acclimatization with an adventurous hike to Nangkartshang Peak (around 5,000 m). The climb takes several hours to reach the summit and return to Dingboche, but the effort is well worth it. From the top, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Makalu, the world’s fifth-highest mountain, along with Island Peak, Ama Dablam, surrounding valleys, and vast glaciers stretching across the Himalayas. After soaking in the incredible scenery and capturing some memorable photos, we descend back to Dingboche for a well-deserved rest. Overnight at Dingboche.

Today’s trail follows a gradual ascent along the edge of the Khumbu Glacier, as we slowly gain a few hundred meters in elevation. It’s important to walk at a steady pace and follow your guide’s instructions carefully to adjust to the increasing altitude. From Thukla, the path becomes steep as we climb up to Thukla Pass. At the top, we reach a moving memorial site dedicated to climbers who lost their lives in the Everest region. From here, you’ll enjoy stunning views of Pumori, Nuptse, Lobuche East, and many other surrounding peaks. Continuing along the rugged trail beside the glacier, we arrive at the small settlement of Lobuche, where we stay overnight.

Today is one of the most important and exciting days of the Everest Base Camp Trek. We begin our journey toward Gorak Shep, following the rugged trail alongside the Khumbu Glacier. Walking at an altitude above 5,000 meters can be physically demanding, so we move slowly and steadily while enjoying the dramatic Himalayan landscape. From Gorak Shep, we continue to Everest Base Camp, the ultimate destination of the trek. From the base camp, you can see the upper slopes of Mount Everest, the spectacular Khumbu Icefall, and many surrounding peaks and glaciers. Standing at the foot of the world’s highest mountain is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After spending some time exploring and taking photos at base camp, we retrace our steps back to Gorak Shep for an overnight stay.

We start the day very early in the morning for a hike to Kala Patthar, the most famous viewpoint in the Everest region. The climb takes a couple of hours, but reaching the top is truly rewarding. From the summit, you’ll witness a breathtaking sunrise and panoramic views of Mount Everest, Nuptse, Pumori, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Taboche, and the vast Khumbu Glacier glowing in the morning light. After spending some time soaking in the spectacular scenery and taking photos, we descend back to Gorak Shep for breakfast. Later, we begin a long but pleasant downhill trek through the valley, retracing our steps toward Pangboche. Overnight at Pangboche.

After breakfast, we begin our descent toward the river and cross a suspension bridge before walking through peaceful alpine forests to Debuche. From here, we steadily climb uphill to Tengboche, where we visit the famous Tengboche Monastery, also known as Dawa Choling Gompa, the largest and most important monastery in the Everest region. The monastery offers a wonderful opportunity to experience Sherpa culture and Buddhist traditions while enjoying stunning mountain views. After our visit, the trail descends in a zigzag path through rhododendron and pine forests to Phunki Tenga. We then begin a gradual ascent to Kyangjuma before finally returning to Namche Bazaar. Overnight at Namche Bazaar.

Today marks the final day of our trekking adventure. The trail descends steeply through forests and small settlements until we reach the Dudh Koshi River. After crossing several suspension bridges, we officially exit Sagarmatha National Park, leaving the high Himalayan wilderness behind. Continuing downhill, we pass through Thado Koshi, one of the lowest points of the Everest Base Camp trek. From here, we begin the final ascent toward Lukla, retracing familiar trails and reflecting on the incredible journey we’ve completed. Upon arrival in Lukla, we celebrate the successful end of our trek and enjoy a well-deserved rest. Overnight at Lukla.

After breakfast, we take an early flight back to Kathmandu, enjoying one last glimpse of the Himalayas from the air. Upon arrival, our representative will transfer you to your hotel. After a refreshing shower and some rest, you can explore Thamel, a lively area filled with shops, cafés, and souvenir stores—perfect for some last-minute shopping. In the evening, we gather for a special farewell dinner at a traditional Nepali restaurant, where you’ll enjoy authentic cuisine along with cultural dance performances to celebrate the successful completion of your adventure. Overnight at the hotel.

Today marks your final day in Nepal. A representative from Glacier Nepal Treks will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport by private vehicle for your onward journey. As you head home, we hope you carry unforgettable memories of the Himalayas, the warm hospitality of the Sherpa people, and the incredible adventure you’ve just completed. Safe travels and see you again — home sweet home!
